Eureka Moments Are Rare19 Jun 2013
Take a moment to look back on your life for a minute and all the big decisions you’ve faced.
How many times have you been absolutely certain about something?
Maybe it was love at first sight with your wife, husband, partner. Maybe you saw the home or apartment of your dreams and had to buy it.
Perhaps you always wanted to go to a specific university or college and didn’t even apply anywhere else.
But, on the whole, if we’re being honest with ourselves, being dead certain about something…anything is a rarity.
That’s because our minds are trained to edit, analyze, pick apart, overthink, second guess and evaluate the alternatives.
And let’s face it, we live in a vast world of choices.
And the same holds true with finding a name for a product or company. Clients want that eureka moment – to fall in love at first sight with a name.
But that rarely happens. I know because I’ve been doing this for 23 years.
Naming is a process and finding comfort in a name comes over time.
A client told me the other day that he was “80% certain’ on the name.
I told him that was enough and he should select that candidate.
Names become perfect and feel comfortable with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight.
